How to Play

  1. Select difficulty - Choose Easy, Medium, or Hard based on frequency range and difficulty
  2. Listen to first tone - A pure sine wave tone will play at a specific frequency
  3. Listen to second tone - After a brief pause, a second tone will play
  4. Make your judgment - Click "SAME" if they sound identical, or "DIFFERENT" if you hear a pitch difference
  5. Build streaks - Consecutive correct answers earn streak bonuses
  6. Complete 25 pairs - Test your pitch discrimination across all tone pairs

Scoring System

  • Correct Answer: +10 points base
  • Speed Bonus: Up to +10 points for fast responses (formula: max(10 - time_seconds / 0.5, 0))
  • Streak Bonus: +5 points per consecutive correct answer (e.g., 3-streak = +15 bonus)
  • Wrong Answer: -5 points (no streak bonus, streak resets to 0)

Difficulty Levels

  • Easy: 300-800 Hz range, 200+ Hz minimum difference, 50/50 same/different split
  • Medium: 300-1200 Hz range, 100+ Hz minimum difference, 50/50 same/different split
  • Hard: 300-2000 Hz range, 50+ Hz minimum difference, 40/60 split (more "different" pairs)

Tips: Use headphones for consistent audio quality. The tones are pure sine waves - focus on whether the pitch sounds higher, lower, or the same. Some people find it helpful to hum along with each tone to better remember the pitch.
